Academic and Student Affairs

Dr. Charles Nash is Vice Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs and the chief liaison officer to academic, student, institutional research, and planning officials at UA, UAB, and UAH. He advises the Chancellor on all academic policy matters and provides primary leadership in program planning, development, and review.

Prior to joining The University of Alabama System, Dr. Nash was Associate Executive Director for the Commission on Colleges at the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), Dean of the School of Education of Armstrong Atlantic State University, and Assistant Vice Chancellor for Academic Development of the University System of Georgia.

Dr. Nash's professional interests focus on the development and assessment of academic programs and institutional quality in higher education, accreditation of colleges and universities, and college and university governance. He chairs accreditation committees for SACS/COC. He is past secretary of the CHEA Board, past chairman of the Council on Academic Affairs of NASULGC, National Forum of System Chief Academic Officers (NFSCAO), Alabama Council of University Chief Academic Officers (ACUCAO). He is chairman of the Board of the Alabama Mathematics, Science, and Technology Education Coalition (AMSTEC), member of the Executive Committee of the National Alliance of State Science and Mathematics Coalitions (NASSMC), and Editorial Board of the Journal of Higher Education Outreach and Engagement at the University of Georgia. He is also a member of the Accreditation Committee of the American Bar Association, and a member of the S.T.E.M. Advisory Board of the National Governor’s Association.

Dr. Nash earned his bachelor's degree from Jackson State College, his master's from the University of Southern Mississippi, and his doctorate from Mississippi State University.
