Performance Indicators In September 2003, The University of Alabama System embarked on a systematic and comprehensive process to develop and implement a suite of Performance Indicators (PI) to monitor the health and progress of its institutions. Developed by the Chancellor’s Academic Affairs staff with input from campus provosts and officials of Institutional Research Offices, the final set of 47 indicators is organized into six categories: Undergraduate Education It is important to note two important design elements of the PIs. One of these is that some elements, noted with asterisks, are reported as information only with monitoring for change over time and do not have associated goals. Another major element is that the PIs were not designed to necessarily compare the System’s three institutions with each other as they are quite diverse, serve somewhat different student populations, and have different missions and varying strengths.
