Mr. Gray retired in 2011 as Founder and President of Gray Research, Inc., in Huntsville. His company provided engineering and management assistance to the United States Department of Defense and NASA.  He received his BS degree in Mechanical Engineering from The University of Alabama in 1981.  In 2007 he was honored as an Engineering Fellow by his alma mater, and in 2010 was inducted into the State of Alabama Engineering Hall of Fame.  He has served his community and state on a variety of boards including most recently as Executive Director of the Governor's Tornado Recovery Action Council and Chairman of the Board of the Von Braun Center for Science and Innovation.
