He is former President of Brindlee Mountain Telephone Company, one of Alabama's largest privately-owned telephone companies, and founder of DeltaCom Long Distance Services, ITC DeltaCom, a publicly traded company. He is a graduate of The University of Alabama School of Commerce and Business Administration. He serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Intergraph Corporation, is a past member of the Alabama Commission on Higher Education, and served in the Alabama House of Representatives and the Alabama Senate.
